Sacroiliitis
Sacroiliitis can be acute or chronic and may be associated with various underlying causes, including:
- Inflammatory Conditions: Conditions such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases (like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) can cause inflammation in the sacroiliac joints.
- Infection: Bacterial or viral infections can sometimes lead to inflammation in the sacroiliac joints.
- Trauma or Injury: Physical trauma, such as a fall or impact, can cause damage and inflammation in the sacroiliac joints.
- Pregnancy: Hormonal changes during pregnancy can affect the ligaments around the sacroiliac joints, leading to pain and inflammation.
- Degenerative Changes: Wear and tear on the sacroiliac joints due to aging or mechanical stress can result in inflammation.
